Getting engaged is sheer joy. You’ve met the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and when they pop the question your heart is filled with happiness. Then comes the wedding planning. There are a lot of fun things about planning a wedding: wedding cake tasting, shopping for a dress, picking the song for your first dance, and planning your bachelorette party. But all of those things can be really stressful, too, and that’s just the beginning. You’ll also have to find a DJ, a photographer, and a florist not to mention figure out who is setting up and tearing down the whole thing. It’s enough to suck the fun out of wedding planning and leave you considering eloping as a serious wedding option.
But planning your wedding doesn’t have to be that hard! There are a lot of ways to take the stress out of the planning process. We’ve been planning weddings in Orange Beach for a while and have learned many tips and tricks to make wedding planning more fun and less stressful. Here are some of the best lessons we’ve learned so far!
How to Take the Stress Out of Wedding Planning
If someone offers to help, let them.
A lot of people are going to offer to help you plan your wedding. Let them! Take advantage of those offers and put your friends and family to work. They’ll enjoy getting to spend time with you before the big day and you’ll enjoy having all these extra hands to help. This is especially useful when you are hand-making invitations or party favors; it gets everyone involved and you can make a night of it together. You might have to let go of perfectionism when you are allowing someone else to do some of the work, but the memories and the investment they are putting into your wedding are more than worth it.
Decide what matters most.
Unless you have an unlimited budget, you probably won’t be able to have it all at your wedding. So before you even get started, decide what matters the most to you and prioritize. Maybe you’ve always dreamed of a flower-filled wedding; if so, save the bulk of your budget for the florist. Or maybe you’ve always wanted a designer gown to walk down the aisle in; then your dress is going to need more of your money. Think about where you want to really splash out and where you can afford to save.
Don’t shop until you have a budget.
Shopping to your budget can prevent a whole lot of heartache. Don’t step out the door (or browse the internet!) until you know what you can afford. This goes for dress shopping, venue booking, and even your honeymoon. When you know what you can afford, you can prevent yourself from falling in love with something way outside of your means and being disappointed by the choices you can afford. Besides, straining your budget will only make the rest of the planning process a lot more difficult.
Go for the all-inclusive wedding package.
This might be the ultimate way to take the stress out of your wedding planning! When you choose an all-inclusive package, everything is done for you. You simply have to choose which options you want from a select set. There is no need to interview a dozen DJs or scan the lookbooks of a hundred florists. It’s all there in the package for you and you and your spouse-to-be simply get to pick and choose from the list of options. It can actually make the entire process of planning your wedding both quick and fun.
Remember the goal.
Ultimately, your wedding is about starting your lives together. It’s about celebrating your love and thanking your family and friends for their support. Sure, you want it to be a great party and you want your guests to have a good time. But the focus should be on your relationship and the love that you have for one another. When that’s the focus, all the stress seems to melt away!
